North Dakota Christians push for state constitutional amendment

A collaboration of Christians in North Dakota are fighting for a much needed state constitutional amendment and need thousands of signatures by next Wednesday (8/4/2010).  With 25,688 signatures needed, the fight is being led by the North Dakota Family Alliance and the North Dakota Catholic Conference.  The signatures are needed for the Religious Liberty Restoration Amendment to be put before voters in the November election. 

Some of the key issues that the amendment is designed to address is instances where ashes on the foreheads of practicing Catholics is deemed "make-up" and in violation of some rules against cosmetics, rosaries being banned for their supposed gang-affiliation (a similar issue was addressed at the Manhattan Declaration blog), and medical schools requiring the study and practice of performing abortions.
