The
Manhattan Declaration team wishes you a Happy President's Day.
There
are have been many changes to our country, government, and culture
since it was first founded. While many of those changes sadden us
(abortion legalized, re-defining of marriage, and our religious
freedom threatened) we do not lose heart and we are grateful for
those who have stood and continue to stand for the Sanctity of Life,
Traditional Marriage, and Religious Freedom.
As
a reflection on President's Day we have compiled some encouraging
words from some of our past presidents who have made a strong stand
for values in America. Feel free to add other presidential quotes
regarding the sanctity of life, religious liberty, and traditional
marriage in the comment box below.
- “It
is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty
God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to
implore his protection and favors.” - George Washington
- “If
the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be
led, like sheep to the slaughter.” - George Washington
- "Congress
shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to
assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." - James Madison, The First Amendment
- "I've
noticed that everyone who is for abortion is already born." -
Ronald Reagan
- "Simple morality dictates that unless and
until someone can prove the unborn human is not alive, we must give
it the benefit of the doubt and assume it is (alive). And, thus, it
should be entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
- Ronald Reagan, 1982
- "This
nation fought a terrible war so that black americans would be
guaranteed their God given rights. Today another question begs to be
asked, how can we survive as a free nation when some decide that
others are not fit to live and should be done away with? I believe no
challenge is more important to the character of America than
restoring the right to life to all human beings." - Ronald
Reagan
- “If
we are serious about renewing fatherhood, we must be serious about
renewing marriage. . . . Healthy marriages are not always possible.
But we must remember, they are incredibly important for children. Our
hearts know this and our nation must recognize this. None of us is
perfect. And so no marriage and no family is perfect. After all, we
all are human. Yet, we need fathers and families precisely because we
are human. We all live, it is said, in the shelter of one another.
And our urgent hope is one of the oldest hopes of humanity, to turn
the hearts of children toward their parents, and the hearts of
parents toward their young.” - George
W Bush, June 7, 2001
